Tales from our Travels: Salamanca
On our last trip to Spain, we ventured to Salamanca. Salamanca is known for having one of the oldest universities in Europe. The University was founded in 1218. The town has maintained its commitment to education throughout history. When first arriving, you do notice that there are tourists but also the city is full of young people with textbooks in hand.
This city is “eye candy” in architecture. It became an Unesco Heritage Site of Mankind in 1988. As one local puts it, “Es una Roma pequeña” or “It is Little Rome”.
Salamanca, due to its rich history in Education, has many Spanish Language immersion schools. One that attracted us due to its location right in the heart of the old city was Colegio de España. (www.colegioespana.com) They have many types of classes for all ages and all levels of Spanish proficiency.
We definitely recommend this gem of a place. Even our 13 year old was impressed. (¡un milagro!) We intend to go back and next time, stay longer than 2 days!

Renewable Energy: One step ahead in España…
Every time we go to Spain, we are impressed by all of the renewable energy that Spain has implemented. Solar and Wind being predominant, we noticed that they have gas that is 30% bio-fuel at all of the gas stations. This was the same price as their premium gas.
